About Me

I grew up on a farm called 'Old Sunnidale's Hog Haven.' Old Sunnidale was a mysterious place - it burned down in the 1870s and vanished from all maps. But before that, it had been home to a vibrant community of Black, Irish, Scottish, and English settlers after the War of 1812, and for countless generations before them, to Ojibwe, Haudenosaunee, and Huron-Wendat families. I didn't know any of this as a child; I just sensed the land held stories much bigger than mine. Maps and history fuelled my curiosity about who came before me and why things are the way they are. And they sparked the stories I constantly scribbled into my spiral-bound notebooks. I always knew I wanted to be a writer - and eventually, a teacher.

I studied English Literature at Trent University, a place born in the 60s where counterculture spirit was alive and well. I learned about erased histories, seeing things from different perspectives, and working together for social change. Then I went to UBC, where I immersed myself in philosophies of anti-oppressive education.

This set the stage for my life as an educator, curriculum designer, and community organizer. This portfolio is a collection of snapshots documenting where life has taken me since then. Thank you for visiting.
